Berserking offers no sandbagging.
Casual colorpicking would probably be fine. Playing both sides like a normal human being is better.
Where are you getting the information from that rating ranges are about the be taken away?
The black/white repertoire argument would obviously be valid, and the feature would have likely remained were it not for the people that take advantage of such a feature. People that play thousands of games are not practicing their openings they are just trying to take advantage of something that is meant for normal use.
Unfortunately, fair people suffer under the consequences these kids that have taken advantage for their own benefit.

In the spirit of fairness and maintaining the integrity of chess, alternating colors is a fundamental aspect of the game. Just as in real-life scenarios, demanding your preferred color in every match disrupts the balance and can be perceived as an attempt to bend the rules in your favor. While certain training scenarios might allow for flexibility, insisting on this in standard play undermines the competitive nature of the game.

how do others "suffer"? I dont get it. If someone play exclusively with white, his rating might be 22 rating points higher (reflecting 3% win-advantage with white). However, if you accept to be black (he is white), then you play a 22 higher rated player who is only higher rated because he always plays white. Thus, if you win against him, you earn a 22 higher performance rating than his true strength.
Though, his true strength is actually 22 points higher, because he is white. So, you play on a fair level play ground.
You dont "suffer" by accidently accepting such a challenge. But accidently accepting is more often happening with invited challenges, and the rating "distortion" (there is no distortion) becomes different because you catch players off-guard when they accept manually invites often without knowing what they agreed to (different to the open challange view, which players are used to look at).
A rating distortion resulting in resigning by move 4 (because people accepted, but where unaware its a 2 hours classic game, and they dont want to play that slow, so they resign), such a distortion in ratings, you really start to suffer, then it isnt about 22 ponts anymore...

Cool I hope there's some sort of annoucement push via email when the option to choose your color comes back, because until then, I'm going to go play on a platform that allows me to choose the color I want to play with.

You are obligated to play with both sides. No platform will let you play rated with those types of odds of only playing white, nor should they.

Just make it an acceptable option for casual games and not for rated games?

Who on earth thought it would be a good idea not to be able to choose color in a casual game?

Just as in real-life scenarios
LOL! real life? Look at Magnus, avoiding to play Hans niemann in the world team Blitz and Rapid. It was maybe not because of the colour, but who knows?
Yes, you can avoid players in real life, avoid colors. you can start tell the team captain, sorry , I cant play, and the substitute takes all your black games.
and still, the arguement is one-eyed. What about casual play, what about berserker mode, and that you lose rating points in a tournament game when you dont do your first move, while otherwise it is just aborted. These are really issues, not the 22 rating point elevation because someone always plays white. I get, you guys dont understand how ratings work. You can not boost your rating more and more with always playing white, because your rating is already 22 points higher because you always play white (or 22 lower because you always play black).
The change, for whatever reason, also banned to chose black, banned it in casual play, but allowed it in invites, it makes no sense when and where and isnt only a "white" issue, but "black", too.

Yeees, can not understand this too. At the moment I play the Caro-Kann. And now I have to wait (worst case) 5 or 6 games to have the chance to play it, because the random black-white-calculator gives me no black pieces many times? - That costs me a lot time and it stresses me so much that I can not play along my trainings plan.
The last weeks I often played without being logged in, there are no punishments. This morning I started frustrated to play Caro-Kann for white, but it is different, not wanna do it for longer.
- Noooo, please give the function back, to change colours ... pls.
