is there a petition possibility to undo the change? We can talk a lot, but it wont lead to reverse, unless we act.

Yeees, can not understand this too. At the moment I play the Caro-Kann. And now I have to wait (worst case) 5 or 6 games to have the chance to play it, because the random black-white-calculator gives me no black pieces many times? - That costs me a lot time and it stresses me so much that I can not play along my trainings plan.
The last weeks I often played without being logged in, there are no punishments. This morning I started frustrated to play Caro-Kann for white, but it is different, not wanna do it for longer.
- Noooo, please give the function back, to change colours ... pls.
You can still open up challenges against individuals and play AI with picked colours!
at the very least, casual should not be restricted, imho! (but if you go casual, you need to wait longer)
but I mean it is turning a blind eye on things like berserker and losing rating points if not 1st move is played in a tournament game.
You all can experience that the ratings players have in tournaments are higher than those in ordinary open challenge seek, and it is not just 22 rating difference (=3% better chance to win) because of some players always ask for white.
you can play a 1.5 min + 2 increment and still call that "less then 3 minutes = bullett"?
you can play 0+4 sec and still this is considered bullett.
you can do 3 min and this is "Blitz".
you can do 8 mins = rapid
you can do 1/2 min + 11 sec and its "Blitz", same as 3min games, which are the clearly the same speed....
You can fiddle here and there, but you can not chose white or black? What non-sense!
And on other chess-sites you can!

Hmm, nooo, I can not bother chess friends with my trainings games and need the influence of a lot different players.
Finally!
I have been advocating for this change for years. Glad they finally go about cleaning up this place

You are in luck, there are over 100 bots online to practice with!
bots, really? then you dont need lichess, but just a chess program. They dont play "human", meaning, they dont know if a position is difficult or not.
Where can we do a petition? this is white/black restriction is really a fun-spoiler. you simply do not need to accept a challenge where someone wants to be black or white.
There is a tendency in many states in the world to to say, what people have to do. Its a pity, that lichess participate in that antidemocratic movement! I prefer to be free in choosing the colour of my game. Everyone on this platform is free to decide, whether he will play with my chosen white or black opening or not!

There are lots of players to play with too! You can play all of them at fair rules, or with odds if you can get them to accept.

Yes, of course they are. You can invite them under the conditions that you choose and they can willingly accept. But the abuse of this feature at the expense of fair people is over, that's a good thing.
