Am playing an OTB game as white tomorrow and wanted to train for it - guess I can't. I really loved lichess and it being non-commercial, but like this, you can't use it to train for OTB games. Will switch to another site, unfortunately.
The "colour debt" introduction is ideology driven. It simply should be 50/50 randomizer algorythm.
It is not thought well through:
a) encouragement to respawn with new account
b) with new account you get more whites than blacks because if others "repay" their colour debt, the algorythm will serve them often more blacks. But if one player gets black, the other gets white. Thus respawned new accounts get "repayed" by old account with a white colour debt, and thus respawned new players get served slightly more often white.
You cannot serve new spawned accounts with 50/50 share, as long as there are players with a colour debt.
Furthermore it is quite strange to have colour debt in casual games, and repay them in rated games. Or have the debt accumulated in bullet and repay them in rapid.
In short the colour debt does not take into account the time control nor if debted colours where in rated or casual games.
and ye, the white/black feature gone is ideology driven. It should not be gone just because - and nobody understands the reason.
The reason could be: quickpairings lacked the consent to agree playing a certain colour.
However, this reason is invented afterwards. Likely, the truth is, Thibolt simply want 50/50 distribution for every player, and the feature gone was not driven by quickpairings non-consensus.
I'd like to practice a new opening as black and find it dull not having the option to choose my side.
I won't do it, but players could resign when the enter a casual game as white and want to play as black and vice-versa. So, in the end, things are not better.
Further more, whe can see what color(s) is chosen in the lobby. So, a player just has to choose another game if he doesn't like the option chosen...
Thank you Munich for fighting so tough against "BeDecent..."and his new rules here. I gave up-stopped my monthly financial support, and dont play here anylonger. I dont accept unlogical antidemocratic thinking. Players should dicide free whether black or white as long as the partner can dicide free whether he accept the offer or not!!! I wont support creasing antidemocratic movements in our world, especially in games where pleasure should dominate the rules!!!
