What Carlsen did was unethical. That can be punished.

And it should also be punished. Carlen has accused Niemann of cheating at OTB Chess without proof. In my opinion he should get a two year ban from FIDE tournaments. And Niemann should sue him for defamation. Even a Magnus Carlsen has to abide by the rules!

Way too harsh.
This is a more explicit statement than I expected.
I curiously await the responses from Niemann and FIDE.

"Magnus played pathetically"

How on earth do you consider yourself to be in the position to judge Carlsen's games? Talking about ego....

And who are you that denies Nomoreusernames the ability to do so?
Here, as so often, you are subject to a logical fallacy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_authority

Well, a proper response from Niemann would be a libel suit against Carlsen and a proper response from FIDE would be a two-year ban from FIDE tournaments for Carlsen!

This is obviously what some people hope for, but I really doubt that is going to happen.

This is obviously what some people hope for, but I really doubt *that* is going to happen.
We will see!
FIDE would be obliged to ban him! And I hope that public pressure from the chess world will force FIDE to take this step!

Unfortunately, no one knows what Niemann will do now. If I were him, I would sue Carlsen.

@Molurus
I certainly would love to see Niemann make a statement, under oath, regarding how often he has cheated. But something tells me he would be better off if he didn't.

LOL. One doesn't need to be a professional footballer, nor play at a level even approaching professional level, to appreciate that Harry Maguire is a terrible footballer.
Yet one cannot make comment re a situation in chess unless one has a high ranking! Love it - talking about ego indeed...

Well you are wrong, so wrong! Niemann does not have to justify himself. He doesn't have to make a statement either. Not until it's proven that he's cheating in OTB Chess. And certainly not under oath. You're twisting the most basic principles of law. Niemann does not have to prove that he did not cheat in OTB chess. You have to prove to him that he cheated.
And you too are making a logical fallacy by assuming that Niemann cheated in OTB chess. There is currently no evidence of this. Prove it!
