Can't create game with specific side any more

yes, but not satisfactory solved for white-only players like my mum.

I guess the problem wouldnt be so bad. Look. most searches in the lobby are non-standard time controlls, and such white searches were possible 1 week ago, and they found a match, despite noone from the quick pairing was matched.

Why is lichess not listening to their members?
Excuses that players abuse the system are ridiculous.
Choose a color you want to play with and anyone can accept or deny the game.
Why take away a feature that is fun!
Sounds like the definition of a systemengineer:
A prerson that hopes that there will be after after him a programmer that think the way he does.
Definition of the programmer:
A person that hopes that after him no one thinks.

The response to this mean that you do not read the complaints with an open mind.
Are you so scared that you might be proven wrong ?

Just bring back the feature.

Horrible change to no longer allow people to choose color. I have been a member since 2015 and have played over 86,000 games but will no longer contribute to a site that limits choices. Opened up a Chess.com account this morning.

Not an excuse, people were abusing the system. There are people here with 8000 games with white and non with black

That's not how matchmaking works. Fair players were auto-matched against people with advantageous and unfair settings, and had no option to be shielded from abusers like that.

That's just a weird statement

Just bring back the feature.

You can use the feature, you can invite people to play under these conditions!

85k games with white, 28 games with black. People like yourself are the entire reason why this feature was required. Finally!

It's a great solution. All games are fair now!

that is just amputating the bad finger, not healing it.
It's not needed - we can have the feature back. As well you could say, delete lichess completely, then you will never have bugs again = problem solved! if nobody plays its fair for everyone!

So that means a separate lobby would need to be made: 1 for color picking, 1 for normal matches. That, in turn, means that someone needs to develop this and maintain it. I'm assuming the resource-intensiveness of this does not justify the benefit for a chess server that is maintained for free.

Not at all. You don't need a separate lobby, nor would that be a magical piece of programming.

It would be sufficient to give the lobby a color filter function:

All / Black / White / Random

Those who - as you always say - want to play “fairly” can set their list to “random” and would never be confronted with a color constraint.

If you prefer a certain color, you will find all suitable opponents in the corresponding opposite color filter. I would always set the lobby to “white” and be happy to find so many people who want to play against “black”. :)

And, of course, only players with “random ” are used for the automatic assignment, and not those who specify their color.

I am a programmer. Can I help you?

It's not a bug though.

Lichess happens to be open source, you can actually freely contribute these features or enhancements at your leisure! I think it owuld be well received if you push that, and share the commit/PR here!
