The main sentiment seems to be that this change was too broadly applied. It's a good thing for rated, sure, but maybe not so good for casual given the other website allows choosing your color for unrated matchmaking.
It should be brought back to Casual for the lobby and removed from rated when challenging a specific player. This is an inaccuracy from Thibault, who didn't think hard enough about what to consider abuse.
I think he just has a firm philosophy on these things in stead of cherry-picking how and where to allow these features. He has commented on these decisions before (not this one though). The 300-move rule is there because people abused the fact that there was no limit.
Ultra bullet was removed because people abused it to use auto-movers.
Color picking is removed from matchmaking because people abused it.
In all of these cases, he could have made a conditional approach to handpick where to allow the feature and where to remove it. In his words: the cost in resources does not justify the use of it.
There is a legitimate case for choosing a color, unfortunately the sensible players have to suffer under those who abused it

@BeDecentForAChange
transphobic
adjective
having or showing a dislike of or strong prejudice against transgender people.
anti-Semitic
adjective
adjective: antisemitic
hostile to or prejudiced against Jewish people.
I know, I was mocking your earlier comment

It feels like racism to talk of such players as "abusers" and "unfair players" etc.
Is there an expression if you opress and demonize a minority such as white-only-players?
Seems like you don;t know what you are talking about. This is not described in the definition of racism
"racist thing" = racism
noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
None of that applies, you seem not to know what you are talking about. The subject is not familiar to you, my impression.
If you dont know, then dont answer my question.
And guess what? you dont even feel bad to use such words in the wrong context, that's the worst about it!

@duran_was_the_mvp: its true though. private msg me, I show you a photo of my my mom playing chess, but dont want to share private things in a forum.
She used to be stronger when she was younger, and taught me chess. Of course, meanwhile I am much stronger in chess than her, even compared to when she was at her best. I remember the chess board I was learning with. All the pieces had faces, the horses where really looking like a horse. The pawns carried a sack on their bag, and the queen looked like the evil queen in disneys snow-white tale. I remember how I was irritated when the pawn was looking backwards, not forwards in the direction it moved, and I was angry when my mum played a dirty trick on me, all pawns facing backwards, 180 degree turned around, but moving forwards. That was unfair.
But playing only white at lichess? C'mon!

I'm sure @BeDecentForAChange also has stories about his mom playing chess. That just doesn't have anything to do with the argument, or whether this was objectively unfair

bedecentforachange disqualified himself when throwing words around like "anti-semitic", "transphobic" and "racist-thing" in the wrong context.

@BeDecentForAChange is somehow right a lot but also trolling a lot.
But @bububulin you're tagging him for a response on a public forum. That's like walking up to someone, tapping them on the shoulder, and then telling them to stop following them xD. Funny as hell though
