Except for the people that are auto-matched against you. This update is a great thing for the platform!
Great update would be an option to turn off auto-matching for a created game. I don't need auto-matching.
You want to play as black - you join my game, you don't want - you don't join. Is it really that difficult?

Nobody asked for that change, and other chess sites (chess.com) offer it for a reason - we want lichess to be an enjoyable place for chess players.
You simply dont accept a challenge if you dont want them to be white? (because you dont want to be black? but if you dont, you want to be white? do the option then...)

You have the option to invite people to play by your rules. Like I said, it's easier to just turn off the feature than to cater to the few people that abuse it.
This is why Lichess has a 300 move rule as well. Some people abuse the fact that this limit was not imposed, so they decided to stop the abuse.

Yes, you still have the option to invite people with this feature

quite cumbersome. How about the option "dont want to play against players who ask for specific colour"?
Similar like the option you dont allow take back requests.

Quite cumbersome to make that feature. Better not to waste development resources on something like that. The option still remains, they just made the platform more fair now.

Nah, that feature is easy to implement. To grey out that option took 2 lines. And you simple do an "if" , if the option is clicked, then...
Really, that's a piece of cake to implement such an option.

May be to look this oppsite side.
lichess sure do some research and found out that less than 1% of users will leave and thought "let abuse these" :)

If you play with black and win against them, you get rewarded as their rating is likely a little bit higher than would be if they were always playing black.

That's like having players on a tennisclub forcing others to play them but only when they are allowed to serve.
Let's not exaggerate, please. There is indeed a slight advantage for white. Stockfish evaluates it as 0.2-0.3, depending on the version and depth. Unless you are really strong player (by which I mean something like 2200 FIDE or so), the inaccuracies you make before move 10 in majority of your games outweigh that minor advantage by far.
Sure, on GM, IM and maybe even FM level it's a lot of difference whether you play white or black. On my level? Only if I really want to believe it and even then, only in my head. Two months ago I played an OTB tournament and my score with white was 1/4 and with black 4.5/5. So much for the advantage...

Lichess is openSource. You can raise a PR with the changes made if it is that easy. But nobody should be forced to invest development resources or time in order to find an exact fitting feature that caters to people that want to play casual, but only one colour, and an option for people to have an account setting where they have to enable this.
