They get detected and banned though! And most players are still legit!
Athletes use steroids. Lawyers bribe judges and lie to everyone. Sales people sell more by over promising. Cheaters everywhere. At least online chess catches them better.
Morality is declining everywhere in society as we head toward collapse.
There is more cheating now.

If we lose more often, what is the chance that it is due to cheating?
If you consider the number of things which have a higher impact on your number of losses, like number of games played, amount of time at the board, time of day, statistical distribution of your performance, number of time you have black, amount of total concentration you have on the game, rating of your opponents etc, you will appreciate that you are likely to have an inflated perception of cheating, compared to how many times there is actual cheating.
Even if you are the best chess player in the world, you are more likely than not to exhibit this flaw in reasoning. It's called Bayes' theorem, just do a search on youtube if you want an interesting insight.

Yes it is increasing. It is hard to climb up online ratings in the past three months. Ratings go down.
It is paranoia. If Hans Niemann cheats (I don't believe he did, but if), he has an incentive - he can pimp his career and become more famous and earn more money.
But there is no incentive to cheat online. Maybe it is fun to try how some cheating software works, 2 or 3 games. But after that - who would continue to do such a boring thing - to move pieces on the computer screen according to some software? It is good to keep it down by cheat detection algorithms. But the topic is so highly overrated. No need to waste thoughts about one in a hundred people who have time to cheat rather than doing interesting things - playing chess for instance.

Thanks dor your comment. Just want to say I did not report any player for cheating, ever. For being outrageous in the chat, maybe a couple of tines. I am not blaming anyone neither suggesting my rating is decreasing because of cheattibg.
