I found GothamChess's Lichess account

Levy is an excellent chess player. And I'm sure a fine human being. But that is not the point of this thread.

In which I refer you to this: https://lichess.org/page/forum-etiquette resource outlining how a post ought to be formulated for clarity.

Also interesting, I suppose, is this article from 2018:

Crew64 - that's how we all got know him. 8x8=64. That's why. He's re-branding to GothamChess ...

So Crew64 predates the Gotham name.

And of course the GothamChess account exists too; closed, but not deleted. Could be reopened on a whim.

I've seen this sentiment stated dozens of times. Never with any evidence. I think it would be interesting to see the evidence. So I asked. Is it part of the chess.com contract? I don't think so. Is it unstated, but chess.com management uses veiled threats of cancellation to keep their streamers' behavior in line? I don't know. But that would be interesting. Is it baseless speculation by Lichess fanboys? I don't know. Maybe the streamers made it up themselves, out of fear of making Danny unhappy.

In one of his vids Levy goes something like: "Why am I using chess.com over lichess? They pay me. Well, not literally, but [he explains his affiliation]". Which is fair enough. I don't wanna search for which vid exactly, but IIRC it was either one of the Guess the Elo, or Lose at Chess series.

He does make fun of Lichess, the most often repeated joke being about the "inflated" ratings. Which is obviously silly, since Glicko is not pretending to be Elo, but it's one of a number of silly and/or mean things he says. (My "favourite" is when he tells high rated people whom he notices played a bad opening to quit chess, that checkers is more for them. Which to me is exactly backwards. If you don't have opening preparation, and yet you achieved a high rating, you got there on more raw chess ability.)

I suspect his comments on Lichess are just to troll the people invested in the chess.com-Lichess rivalry. Because a lot of people here seem defensive of the website and easy to needle.

It could also be for psychological reasons - he used to play here, now he's prevented from it by his contract, so he feels better about feeling like he would have made this decision anyway instead of like he's a slave to his obligations? Pure speculation, of course.
