Did you come to lichess from chess.com?

I had come to lichess from chesscube, yahoochess, playchess.com, chessplanet, and ICC. Old school will understand.

I had come to lichess from chesscube, yahoochess, playchess.com, chessplanet, and ICC. Old school will understand.

I am still on both, but 99% here at lichess. I am an open source type (everything at home on a linux system e.g. for > 15 years).

The 1% time i go back to chess.com every time I think: who developed their ugly UI (especially the UI during a game), it is really totally not-intuitive and confusing for me. Sometimes a less floated interface is so much more to the point. Of course lichess itself has changed their UI over time in some steps, but I feel at home here (almost on a daily base).

I have not deleted my chess.com account, but might do. The only reason is that sometimes a player you meet OTB in real life is on chess.com and you want to play each other online, but that's about it. More then the commercial nature I just totally dislike the UI of chess.con both when playing a game as well as the menu stricture and unwanted suggestions that sometimes popup.

But liking or disliking a UI is also a matter of personal taste of course. It's fine people can choose from several platforms. I am not "against" chess.com but only wanted to share my motivation as intended by topic opener. For me it is not a competition and I am actually also interested in the question by the topic opener inviting people who play on both sides to share their thoughts..

In summary: open-source and nice UI is what attracts me here.

I play on Both... that said its 80% LIChess and 20% Chess.com

A) the average player on LIchess seems/appears to be more mature (those I take up games with or communicate with on the forums )

B) The games here on Lichess seems to be more human. I don't encounter people who can uncork serious tactical threats, while at the same time demonstrate a total lack of opening theory. at Chess.com ... every time I play on the weekend.. I run into that player (IMO that is the dead give away there is some form of silicone usage going on...

What are the odds someone gets really good at tactics and knows absolutely nothing on openings ???? NOT LIKELY.

It appears if the Cheating isn't setting off Chess.com's A.I. algorithms... Then no admin is asking why someone can play a six move tactic at 1200 elo (with 3-4 branching moves) yet demonstrate a total lack of opening theory (FYI... IMO that's how they are beating the A.I. Cheat detection bots. Probably using an old chess engine from the early 2000s. (which is really weak by toady's standard, yet very strong against humans ) setting it to play less than optimum (like really aggressive or really defensive ) AND with no opening data base. I believe that higher than normal cheating is because of the average age of the members (which looks to between 15- and 25 ) and that it's a pay for membership site that GMs frequent ...

C) The amenities here at LIchess are unlimited and free... If I want to do puzzles all day.... I can do puzzles all day.

I open lichess.org for piay puzzle.I like play puzzle.I want to play on the the chess.com,but I didnt login because I want to try it first.I tyied but I didnt think it is good.
after that,I came to lichess, and I think this is better, because it is simple to use,and no VIP,it is all free for every player.
However,I think lichess is better.

I started playing on Chesscube too! Chesscube was so good in the early days. It turned into a mess after a couple of years and I started playing on Instantchess where I played for years anonymously. When I found Lichess, it was like a dream :) Never looked for another chess site.

I tried chess.com a few times on and off during this journey. Could hardly last there for more than a day. I never liked the UI, can't recall having fun playing chess there.

If someone plays uncommon openings against you it does not mean they are using an engine at all.

You only can make this assumption if the played flawlessly, according to the machine, the rest of the game and the game is long enough to even matter.
