FIDE suspends GM Christopher Yoo following new harassment allegation

It's not an excuse, it's just the reason why. He can't control his emotions. It might get better with age, might no. We will see what FIDE thinks, but I doubt they'll be serious enough to give a lifetime ban.

Why do you "express doubt" about the proportionality of the sanctions tho?
Because it's crucial to get the facts straight before talking about punishment.

What facts are missing to talk about punishment? The victims have spoken, witnesses are at hand. What is missing?

I just don't know them and didn't get the chance to check the situation.

I think that the chess authorities should avoid getting involved with off-board matters like this. If someone punches someone at Walmart, Walmart doesn't investigate it and adjudicate it, they let the experts (i.e. police) do it. Chess authorities should stick to chess and let the police and judicial system deal with this kind of thing.

So you think they should just ignore it and let these people continue to play in tournaments, and risk more women being punched and harassed? This is not about FIDE and USCF replacing the police, because the police are involved anyway.

This is about player safety at tournaments, and players who don't adhere to the various codes of ethics and disciplinary codes being held to account by the chess organisations.

We have already seen what happens when the chess organisations don't get involved, and it doesn't end well.

If security is needed, it is best that it is run in a professional way, like hotel security guards, or whatever.

If spectators throw something on a football field punishment is not only left to justice. You think this is wrong?
