Chess Broke My Heart... Here’s Why I Still Can’t Quit

U18 regional championship in our state (25 years ago)
The guy, who always won without breaking a sweat wasn't there - So finally I was the top seed by about 100 rating points. Blundered a piece in round 2 against a 200 points lower rated (=1540) and finished the tournament (on my usual) 2nd rank. Still hurts :-(

My fide is 2029 but I can’t cross the 2050 border my peak is 2050 Standard

Stefan Kindermann had the same issue reaching his GM title - at least he wrote that in his book "Königsplan" (not sure, if there is an english translation). His solution? Just relax and it will happen on its own :-)

I played an online game some years ago where I blundered a N move. Essentially, any blind person could see this move and it was almost forced, yet I didn't play it. I thought something had gone wrong in the position and just had a brain fart that moment. My opponent had pinned my Q with his rook and I had a N check to not only win his other rook, but this one falls after I take the other.... I blundered a TWENTY ONE point swing in evaluation! LOL. I had played a beautiful attacking game only to end it at -9... I had all the time in the world also, it wasn't even something I could blame on time pressure.

I even chatted with the opponent after and said, "I was sure that was winning and I don't know what happened.." He typed lol and wrote, well, the computer will know! I'm pretty sure he knew also, but didn't want to see me commit suicide over the internet. :D

I once played in a lokal tournament, I was up a whole Piece, but I became greedy and wanted to grab some Pawns, I missed a nice tactic, which cost me the win. I would have won the tournament with a Win but it didnt wanted to be. I was so pissed on my self, it was just sad. But now I can laugh about it

Once I joined a FIDE tournament, it was the last round and if I win it I will get a very good result which I think it decides my abilities in future. I played a perfect endgame (which endgame is my best in chess). At the end I'd got three pass pawns on queen side, unexpectedly my opponent suddenly put his king in front of my pawns, and start pushing his pawn majority on kingside. In fact, I can stop all his pawns cuz that is just connected double pawns, it's not dangerous at all! But I'm in time trouble also I underestimated my opponent's threat and I let him successfully created a pass pawn. We started a pawn race but his king easily stopped my pawns meanwhile my king couldn't stop his pawn. I feel like I just like a garbage in chess and I couldn't forgive myself.

I often achieve totally winning positions, including being up a Queen or rook. But then my crafty opponents never resign; they play trappy moves, often winning back my Queen, or crushing me with an unstoppable pawn-roller, promoting. But this usually only happens in blitz, but it still hurts!

In Nationals in Ohio, I was winning by +4.8, but slowly and surely, time pressure came on and came back to haunt me. I later on went to blunder all my advantages as well as a fork that lost me the game. I still regret it to this day. This is the reason why I play faster and take less time nowadays, and I improved much more.

Once I was playing in U-12 district selections, there were only 4 rounds, in the last one I literally hung mate when I was up a rook. The top 5 were selected, including the one I lost to. Still hurts :(

I agree with him, I don't exactly like chess, even it being a good extracurricular for college doesn't motivate me anymore.

When I was at my peak rating, and I kept playing these 1900s USCF and had almost a better position almost winning in each game. I lost like 30 rating points, and my hope. I decided to finally get back, after my dad gave me a whole speech. In my next tournament I got to 1918.
