So you know him personally and must have played over-the-board chess with him and know full well he isn't a particularly good player capable of that result (so must have cheated).

If he's really your friend you should talk to him and guide him properly and tell him that it's not correct way. He's your friend, you are responsible for helping him.

I don't understand cheating on lichess.

If there is money involved, of course it's still despicable but at least there is some logic behind it, but when you are on lichess and winning or losing doesn't matter, what do you even gain from that?

What do you do with money? Many people buy reputation.
