Looks like this issue has been partially fixed - things are not as jumbled as before to my eyes at least, but there are still continuity problems.
https://imgur.com/a/pNQbFHZ is an example - green is the main line, which should happen right after 19...Re6 on the top, but is for some reason in a subvariation. Red is MEANT to be in a subvariation, since 19.Rb5 is the highest-ranked/main line, and there is no third 19. move that would make more branches, but instead it's plopped onto the bottom.
Generally speaking, there are some spacing issues, esp. with indentation (not the setting, the actual distance from the left), with and without Lichess Tools auto-expanding variations, but most importantly: the main lines now go down without jumping, BUT everything that is not the mainlines seems pretty jumbled up still. Also, some of the main lines (right before drop-down variations) are put in subvariation parenthesis for no reason, while subvariations are shoved down. This is obviously an improvement, but of course not there yet.
Glad to see some change so far! And thanks to Schlawg for the well-written, very helpful response. Thanks Lichess devs for all you do once again!

It looks as if they only brought back the old look for broadcast games.

i want to understand this, but it seems like there may be some extension stuff going on in that screenshot outside of just the button hiding.

https://imgur.com/a/s5HdJR1 this goes in much more depth and without any extensions on, hope this makes clear what my point is - sorry for the very long explanation, the last photo is kind of a quick and dirty showcase

Thanks for this!
Thanks for this!
So are these changes permanent or are you going to revert some of it, @schlawg ? Hard to adapt to changes if you don't know if they are going to stick...
