Why does the Lichess rating-distribution have peaks around multiples of 100?

If you look at rating distributions, they all have more or less pronounced peaks at the whole hundreds. You tend to get more people with 1500 then 1475 or 1525, etc.

Why is that? Shouldn't be due to the ELO-math. Is it some gambling psychology that makes people stop playing after they break a new century of ELO?

I always assumed it was because people prefer round numbers, and will fight toward that rating and then be 'done for the day', that kind of mentality. I would be curious too, if it were more than that.

yeah, but they would have to stop for quite a while or even for ever, for that effect to be quite so visible, right?

It is because 100 has 10 times the meaning of 10. If you go for some meaningful result (in that sense), even subconciously, you stop there rather than anywhere.

Shouldn't there be some peak at 2222 as well then, if it was merely psychological?

Also a subjective note: I felt like after breaking a century opponents tend to get easier for the next 30-points. Anyone else have that feeling?

Reaching goal, opening new account. :) (or playing variant, different period)

#8 But that can not be true in quick pairing, because you get to play guys around your rating +/- one hundred. Or people see your new hundred and subconsciously say you are more deserving an opponent and let you have better games from that mind set.. I doubt it.

At least in my experience, I feel it is not easier.
