I think LiChess may update the takeback system. It's supposed to be only be used if you accidentally castle when you meant to play the Bongcloud.

Don't listen to those people that say "it's not real chess if you accept takebacks". I'm sorry but that's dumb. I can understand the logic but guys chess is a GAME. Furthermore this is not OTB chess, this is online chess and most of us aren't pros, you should play for fun. If all that matters to you is your rating or if you win or lose then you miss out on actually enjoying the game. Sometimes the opponent makes a stupid mistake, not even a mouse slip, and you give him a takeback just so you can have an awesome game, you might even lose, it's not a big deal. I'm not acting like I always accept takebacks but I definitely consider every offer. And I almost never ask my opponent for takebacks, so I am not doing expecting something in return, the only thing I expect is an interesting game.
your right. I won't disable my takebacks but if I'm playing rated ima decline all the time. Causal I will still decline because it opens window for people to unfair win. But for a fair game say blitz in the 3 minute range I would accept because players dont always have enough time to check their moves. That being said make a fair game. If you see mouseslip offer takebacks but cross check that it is a slip.

I've heard people say you should only do takebacks in casual.
It makes sense. You dont want to lose rating points over hitting the "accept" button

Nothing to do with rating points.
I don't like it because it disrupts the flow of my thoughts.
It's online chess. So you have to be careful while entering your moves, it's part of the "ONLINE" chess.
It might be even better for Lichess to disable it during rated games (rated = serious).
I am convinced high rated people doesn't have this problem.
If they did a mouse slip, they assume, they resign (if they are in a lost position) and move the next game if needed.
Time is too precious to be wasted on taking moves back.
One can analyze the game alone afterwards if he wants to know more about the move he intended to do.
If one is grieved over a lost game because of a mouse slip, he should get better at chess instead, because one loss shouldn't really matter if you really know your value.

Hi I have been at lichens for a fair time but 1 question I haven't got answered. "should I accept or decline take backs." I dont want to go the wrong way and lose lots of games, in what cases should you accept or decline and what do you do.
Accept only in casual games andin rated gamesonly if your oponent makes an obvious mouseflip like in that position and plays Rf2 as black instead of taking the queen on g2 8/8/5k2/8/8/3K4/1r4Q1/8 w - - 0 1 for some reason the FEN is shown but not the board

When should you accept takebacks? Never.
When should you grant takebacks? Never.

There are several factors.
Do accept takebacks if
it's an obvious mouse slip
it's a good game and you don't want both players to lose out on a good game because of this
you can even accept if it's just a huge blunder for the same reason above
you wish to be nice and pay it forward - but don't assume it will be returned
if they ask politely it increases my chances
Don't accept them if
you are pushing for rating points
it's an important game like in a tournament especially for teams
if the person is rude or keeps asking for them
if the person didn't grant a takeback themself
you are not in the mood to grant takebacks
Probably other things but this is off the top of my head.
