Should FIDE ban the Israeli flag?

@tpr said in #28:

genocide in Gaza is well-documented, see, e.g. the 503 references of
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_genocide.

Most of the links are junk and irrelevant. The main points have long been refuted https://besacenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/213-2.9.2025-Edited.pdf

Ok, I see, I missed conviction with indictment.

So what do u think about banning all Middle East flags? With "The cleanest is to ban all flags" I persanally agree.

This means they are mistaken and ignore all the evidence that was presented at Nuremburg Trials.

Just as some ignore all the evidence of on-going apartheid and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and a UN commission of inquiry which states that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. More than enough to get the Israeli flag banned, if Ukraine/Russia is used as a benchmark.

Then don't you have to ban any flag that had a war. America more wars than any nation , great Britain the British empire, France ,Germany, Portugal , the list goes on........ban all flags become one world , the saddest thing is we never learn , and keep repeating history over and over . Ridiculously PATHETIC over and over again xxx

I've already sent a response to these unfounded accusations in #31

And just out of interest I want to ask: against which ethnic/religious/race group is Israel carrying out apartheid/ethnic cleansing/genocide?

First off, I thought I saw on the news that the war is over and they have agreed on the ceasefire.
With regard to the displacement of Palestinians, that was tragic, but at the same time, it is not very rare. During wars, people often get displaced. For example, when India, for example, became a country, the British separated India into two countries, Pakistan (a muslim state) and India (a Hindu state). Many Hindus in Pakistan were displaced and had to flee to India due to violent and discriminatory conditions that followed the 1947 partition of India.
And plus, no minority knows more about being kicked off land than the Jews. All Jews were expelled from every Middle Eastern Muslim state after Israel gained its independence in 1948. There were large Jewish communities in Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, etc. When Israel became a state, these Middle Eastern countries expelled the Jews. So ethnic cleansing went both ways.
Lastly, no one has colonized more land than Arabs. In the beginning of the Middle Ages, there were large Christian groups living in the Middle East. However, in less than a century (7th century), the Arabs conquered the entire Middle East, making the Middle East predominantly Muslim, and they didn't do so solely by immigration. They did so through migration and forced conversions. And that is my point: things change. Ethnicities and borders change over time.

Also, displacement of people in the West Bank and Gaza occurred during wars. In 1948, the Palestinians started a war, and lost. In 1967, they started another war, and lost. This occurred again and again in 1973, 1982, 2000, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2021, and in 2023 (current conflict). I have never heard of a law that states that you can start a war, and when you are losing it, you can pretend as if you never started it.

If you call what Israel is doing a genocide, then I doubt you know the accurate meaning of the word. A genocide is a crime committed with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole or in part. Israel has clearly shown that they don't have the intent. When a target (such as a tunnel) is underneath a civilian structure, that is the doing of Hamas so as to gain sympathy when Israel tries to destroy the tunnel. Also, Israel gives up the advantage of surprise by warning Palestinians to get out of harms way, but unfortunately, Hamas forces the Palestinians to stay in civilian structures as human shields. You can't destroy a target without killing civilians if the target is hiding behind or under the civilians. And plus, Israel has dropped more bombs than civilians killed so that either means that Israel has really bad aim, or they are going above and beyond to prevent casualties. Also, you can't claim a genocide if the population of Gaza and the West Bank has grown in the past 2 years. Lastly, if Israel wanted to commit genocide, this war would have been over in one afternoon because Israel has one of the strongest militaries in the world, with nuclear weapons, etc.

Thus, I don't think FIDE should ban the Israeli flag like they did for Russia. Israel is simply defending itself and trying to put an end to Hamas. Russia has attacked Ukraine with no such aim.

There are big differences between the war in Ukraine and that in Gaza.
Just for starters:
1 a. The Israelis were provoked, not just by the huge massacre and kidnapping, but by the attitude of people in the West, deciding that the very next day or two would be a nice time for a 'help the Palestinians' march, and a bit of dancing.
1 b. The Russians were not provoked (except according to their famously honest propaganda).

  1. a. The primary targets of the Israeli defence force were Hamas 'fighters'.

  2. b. The Russian forces attack civilians and infrastructure regardless of military targets.

  3. a. Hamas are religious nationalists, with no intention of coming to a deal with the democratic regime that is its neighbours.

  4. b. The Russians have a pretend democracy and are doing their best to subvert and destroy democracy in Ukraine.

The numbers have come out wrong.
They should be 1a/1b; 2a/2b; 3a/3b.

What the fuck is this question doing in the "General Chess Discussion" channel instead of "Off Topic Discussion"?

Regardless, if you have a strong opinion, change can only come through petitioning your national organization.

Is this a joke? That 300-page article you cited is nothing more than an opinion piece. They trust statements of the IDF whenever possible and disregard opposing statements. They blame the civilians/victims (they should have known and been able to evacuate before their apartment building was obliterated), despite inability of ppl to evacuate and constant shifting locations for evacuations. They disregard more than 200 journalists killed in Gaza, very clearly identifiable. Yet they purport to know what is happening inside of Gaza. It's full of speculation and assumptions. Did you even read it?

Why shouldn't they trust IDF evidence that has photo and video confirmation?

They blame the civilians/victims (they should have known and been able to evacuate before their apartment building was obliterated), despite inability of ppl to evacuate and constant shifting locations for evacuations.

Perhaps I didn't read carefully enough, but the text primarily accuses Hamas of creating obstacles to the evacuation. And this really happened many times, the terrorists did everything possible to make it difficult for people to move around.

They disregard more than 200 journalists killed in Gaza, very clearly identifiable.

There are also many investigations into terrorists posing as journalists https://honestreporting.com/who-are-the-killed-gazan-journalists-affiliated-with-palestinian-terror-groups/
I spent less than a minute to find this list, and it already contains more than 80 "journalists".
