How to prep against your opponent using OpeningTree...

So I have been going to the local chess club every Wednesdays, and I played against a much stronger player than myself...

Luckily i swindled some more wins but I can tell if it weren't for his blunders, he is just a better chess player

I am about 2100 rated and he is about 2300 rated, He added me on Chessdotcom so I have his database at hand

Next Wednesday, I really want to prep and really try to out-play him. Maybe I can catch him in the opening before we get to his superior middle and end game stage...

How would you prep against an opponent?

I have watched the brief Rosen video using opening tree, but it was kinda brief and I didn't really have a solid idea of how to do it properly

This seems like the logical way:

1-Put his username into OpeningTree.org
2-See what his responses are as black to my usual D4 open and see the most popular moves and run it through the engine
3-He plays E4 usually, then also plays 'The black Lion' and 'Grunfeld' stuff, and see the most popular moves and run it through the engine
4-Create a private study and get used to the muscle memory of playing the optimal moves on all the openings
5-Go through the opening explorer database and see what the top players are doing
6-Look at some YouTube content with similar positions and have a human GM kinda explain the ideas

I am not used to prepping, not sure if too much info and move orders might do me more harm than good, but do you think this a good way to go about it? I have 6 days till next Wednesday and maybe I can update you guys with a report. I know the black Lion is probably the worst opening there is (because I used to play it)

I know it's a bit deflating where you do all this prep, and then they play something they don't usually play anyways, but I guess that's part of the fun of chess

What steps would y'all take against a much stronger opponent within a week?

Thanks in advance

Opening trees is useful but chessbase is best for preparation if you want to really get a win out of opening
Download all his games in a database , Prepare a dossier . Check his openings . Then in that opening prepare thematic tactics and traps by built in functions . Since that is the only way you can win in opening itself .
Something like this , You ll get

Good luck , If you want help to prepare something then you can dm me .

You don't need Openingtree.org anymore. Just open analysis board. There is "Master database", "Lichess" and "Player". Click on "Player". You will find your name. Then click on the gear icon right next to it. You will be able to change the name (Lichess handle). Type in a Lichess handle you want.

Thanks, I don't see how do you put your opponent's games into it, if he is on the Chessdotcom platform?

As far as I am aware, you can only assess your own behaviors with the lichess self explorer, that's the whole point is I am trying to prep my opponent, not myself

I am using ChessBase. Put all of your opponents white/black games in a tree database. Just drag and drop. Then: use the tree!

Openings are not useful, what matters is deep calculatin and some inspiration.

@PEBBLE85 You can only search for Lichess players here at Lichess.

The most important openings are traps and counter traps.

@PEBBLE85 Then you have to work with OpeningTree.org after all.
