I started playing when The Queen's Gambit came out, and started studying when I made this account
I wondered when I would read a comment like that. I wonder how many people started playing chess because of The Queen’s Gambit.

Played as a kid and sporadically since then, generally against opponents far weaker then myself (and I'm not that flash) though. Started back again about a year ago after watching the Queen's Gambit. Only around 1200 Blitz now, would like to get to 1600+ at some stage though studying time is a factor, I'm 45 for interest's sake.

I've known how to play for about 19-20 years. Played mostly during primary and high school, once I got to about 15 and using the internet more I would play everyday for a few weeks and then take a few months off until I was in the mood. But I've actually been studying and taking it more seriously since the first lockdown in the UK.

@Sarg0n like always first, hehe

Learned to play when I was 5, played on and off through the years. I'm 36 now.
But I'm legitimately terrible. I try to study the game to get better but am prone to incredibly stupid blind spots where I blunder and turn a completely winning position into a losing one in a single move. It's unbelievably frustrating.
Sometimes I think I like the idea of playing chess more than actually playing chess.
