Lol if people needs 5 years to reach 1800 then you're seriously gonna have a hard time being at constant 2000.
24 hours
I played chess for the first time when I was 6 or 7 against @]spongebobrectanglep (my brother) IRL. He was like you can capture this with your queen. I had no choice but to capture because I didn't knew how to play chess. And then he recaptured. I started chess classes when I was 10 and here I am.
(PS: Now my brother is jealous of me :D)
Almost 2 years now. I still remember when I was 300 rated on chess.com

I think it comes down to how much time people put in to the game. You could play 100 games 1000 or even 10 000 games per year + studies. So 5 years itself says nothing.

1200 to 1800 in 5 years... started at age 50. Would like to reach 2200+ in my lifetime... God willing. I'll definitely need another lifetime or two to reach GM... anything is possible.
In which case you'd also need to factor in the age 50 bit, I'm 45 and it's not as easy to increase in ranking now then it would have been 30-40 years ago. I'd be happy to reach 1800 in 5 years, would be an achievement all things considered :)

Im 36 :). I think age is less a factor then people think and how much time you put in is a way bigger factor.
If i combine my chess.com and lichess i got around 8500 games since i started last year and now crossed 1900 in rating on lichess. How many games have you played total during your 5 years?
#1 I learnt the rules of chess 6 years ago, but I've started playing chess for 2 years.

I've been playing for about 1 year and just standard games across both here and chess.com I've played around 1800 or so.
