a) I park the mistake/ blunder in the PAST in a parking lot where I can retrieve it later. (Some people hang their mistake/ blunder on a clothesline or tree but I am too macho for that?!)
b) I move to the PRESENT and totally ignore the recent past, calm myself.
c) Focus ion the FUTURE. I embrace the role of fierce, cool defender. Show me.
That is the theory anyway! But I do like the 'throw pudding at the wall approach' of @rookitiki
A True Story:
One time I played a KID as Black with lots of good tactical play but just when I was ready to do a checkmate - I gave my blinking queen for free - immediately resigned in disgust. I ran the Lichess game analysis and noticed that the score graphic somehow showed me as winning in the final position. Stupid LiChess bug!?! grr
I went to another room and mindlessly watched tv for about 10 minutes.
Then a flash - oh crud - I went back to the game and sure enough despite losing my queen I still had mate in a few moves. Never doubt LiChess evals!
Feel free to look at a blitz game I played like a week or two ago with my Alekhine’s Defence. It’s not hard to find, I don’t play many games. First i blunder a piece. Then I make a few good moves. Then I had mate in 1 (!!!!) and blundered my Queen instead while in time trouble!! Absolute disaster! Just straight up hung the damn thing! If there would have been any infants nearby I would have punched them all in the face!

I do swear or smash when I stupidly lose yes

I have to admit, when I make a huge blunder, there are 2 ways I can react:
-
Merde, eeiiiwaaaaaaa, WHYY, OUIiIiN, eiwaaa this is how you're doing to me, calmly closing the computer and play another game
-
calmly closing the computer and play another game thinking in my hazelnut-shaped brain:"quand même" and feeling anxiousness about how stupid I am, shall I change my openings? Shall I never ever play chess again? Am I stupidly smart enough to even consider to not give up?

Do you swear? Slam the mouse? Throw a chair? Strangle the nearest living thing? Strangling a gold fish is difficult, believe me. I tend to say “Awww frick my bum” with varying degrees of intensity depending on my mood. How about you all?
I usually insult myself and immediately try to find a way to recover something bluffing some strength or hidden tactic, unless its a game ender blunder, in that case I do a facepalm, close my eyes, take a deep breath, surrender and go next.

And I thought I was bad!
More swear words than you can poke a stick at.. mrs tells not to swear ... dog hides... ipad has lost a few lives... and certainly don’t f*****g talk to me for several hours...
At he moment I’m taking a break because playing like a t**t sends my stress levels higher than a Richard Branson balloon!

I don't make blunders but sometimes I lose concentration and play a move that I immediately recognize as a misclick after my opponent shows me the refutation by playing it out. Then I request a takeback and (if not granted) refuse to play for a while, using the time to post a complaint about players' manners in the forum. When my clock is about to run out I send a draw offer, keeping up the pressure in the chat by saying "please, I have to go". If that fails, my final goto is a disconnect, which provides a chance for karma to kick in and make my opponent misclick on 'draw'. If I come back and the game is lost, I report the opponent for cheating.

seriously? That's effed up. Learn to lose and suck up to your mistakes. Its not a misclick if you play a bad move. That's all you. The opponent SHOULD punish your mistakes. How else will you improve?
Anyway, most here seem to have a healthy honesty about their own errors. I've smashed two mice. Even found a good quality sturdy mouse brand by this method (lol). Now that I'm playing rapid (not blitz) i blunder less and my anger at my mistakes is limited to some mild cursing or trash talking (to myself).
