@MistakeCorrect "Candidate Master" is the name of a title - just like National Master, International Master and Grandmaster. They are different levels of master, not a "candidate".
Sure we can play the titled tournaments, getting diamond membership on the green site, lower starting fees otb. Envious?
Given that CM is in fact a FIDE title, a FIDE "title" does not necessarily preclude "master" status.
CM is a non-master title that represents the achievement of a 2200 FIDE rating.
Apparently it's possible to acknowledge significant achievement in chess that is below the level of master. Why is that so confusing?
Admittedly, NM sounds better than CM. But this NM is a national thingy and not an official FIDE title. So in principle they can do what they want with their national titles.
By the way, in Germany you have to reach 2200 FIDE besides 2100 national rating (+100 Euro^^), then the federation applies for the title for you. The 2100 DWZ is probably more difficult.
@TheBoarShark I’ve seen that exact same comment a while back...
The fact that CMs and NMs are similar in strength certainly seems to validate the use of the term "master" in the CM title. For all the criticism that patzers and hacks seem to level at NMs and CMs, the fact that they are really f*cking strong players seems to get overlooked. Perhaps the title of RFS would resolve the issue.
Yeah, according to my experience it's pretty futile to discuss about flying with boars and sharks in public forums.
