Do you consider chess a sport?

As a general rule 1kg of fat is 7,000 kilocalories.

As a general rule people burn about 500 kilocalories swimming 1km.

Therefore you'd have to swim about 42kms to burn 3 kg.

42kms or 26 miles is a very long distance to swim in one hour; many times the world record.

That's a very long way of saying that someone can get dehydrated playing chess just like they can get dehydrated swimming.

@StingerPuzzles I'm afraid you misunderstood the topic. We are not talking about calories or kilograms.

Using Chrome I see people discussing swimming, physical activities and energy used in physical activity.

I'm not sure why you're missing it.

@Feniks714 In a certain sense, one can speak of calories and kilograms. You also use up calories in chess. And not too little either. We know from Karpov that he lost several kilograms during the first competitions with Kasparov. Therefore, chess can also be seen as a sport. You also need to be in good physical condition in chess.

As in any discussion, people deviate from the topic, hence why I didn't want to participate into it, my bad. One more time the topic is:

That’s all true stinger, but you don’t lose calories you lose water from sweating and breathing. My weight is 109kg so with body being 70% water you see how easy it is to drop 3kg

Last time I weighed myself (yday) I had 111kg, after swimming and eating and drinking 2 liters of water I had 108.4. so I exaggerated and left out the part where I had only coffee and cigarettes until I went swimming at 1800. but you can still see I really lost more than 3l water.

If you wanna lose 500cal per km you probably need to swim very slow or in pretty cold water

Last I checked and hour of jogging was 500 cal and swimming slightly above. Burning 500 cal per km is only possible if you freeze your balls off or your style is so bad you nearly drown after 10m 😂

Yes, I do. The International Olympic Committee considers chess to be a sport. Chess requires physical exertion as mental exertion manifests itself physically. ... Chess is competitive as the participating players feel the drive to win. Chess requires skill as a deep and serious chess training is necessary to become good at chess.

I have changed my mind, previously I stated that because of the physical aspect I did not consider chess to be a sport. However, the physical stress can also be extended to the brain, brain is also a physical entity present in our bodies and during intense chess it will become exerted to a great deal. That reasoning leads me to now conclude that I consider chess to be a physically strainings exercise which would then according to the definition of sport categorize it as a sport.
