Chess.com is more popular because of the URL. Lichess is significantly better as a free product. The free version of Chess.com cannot compete with Lichess. You get limited access to the analysis board, puzzles, and more. Even the premium versions of Chess.com do not provide detailed statistics like Lichess does. And the Lichess studies are unique and there is no equivalent on Chess.com.
The middle-tier subscriptions on Chess.com provide no significant benefit over Lichess. The diamond-tier subscription on Chess.com provides video lessons that are not available on Lichess. Many of equivalent lessons are available for free on YouTube, but Chess.com provides them for you in an organized fashion in a single location. If you are willing to pay for the convenience of the videos, the diamond membership may make sense.
With that said, even with the diamond membership, Chess.com lacks in some areas. The digital chessboard is less responsive. The analysis board is not as easy to use (it does not show alternate move recommendations in a simple format like the Lichess board).
Some aspects of Chess.com are neither better or worse than Lichess. The formatting and coloring of the site is one example. Some prefer Lichess, while others prefer Chess.com. Overall, Chess.com offers an awesome product. I would pay for it if not for the fact that Lichess provides such a good free product. Chess.com is good for the chess community. And charging for services is normal. My only issue with Chess.com is that they are not able to provide a substantially better product than Lichess despite charging for it. The only tier subscription on Chess.com that makes any sense would be the most expensive diamond subscription if you are too lazy to Youtube the lessons.
I play on both sites. My Chess.com account is about 6 months old. I found Lichess more recently. I prefer Lichess though I will play games on both. I have a diamond subscription with Chess.com, but I do not intend to renew it.
I dnt think chess.com is the best site if compared to lichess.
It is full of hackers and spammers.
I am @kingnandi a famous leader and member of a club called cla which was in top 100 clubs there.
But when I closed my account for inactive then suddenly I wanted to open my account as I was missing.
But when I mailed them they replied and told I was banned.
But I didnt did anything and just closed my account for my exams .
But they didnt listen and banned me.
This is the main reason as they want to hide their shame and the main support team staffs are not helpful.
My friends and followers who were 2000 followers all protested to staffs but they didnt open.
So I hate it.
Also when I was there once a spammer messaged me by giving bad photos of her and told he want to meet me in road.
But I was a child so I blocked her.
Then again once my friend got messaged by a spammer who told him to give his naked photographs.
Thats insanely bad.
And he told me about that and he blocked and reported the spammer.
So I think its full of spammers.
Also many spammers say nice words and want to be club super admins and then they hack.
Its full of spammers a d hackers.
Bur in lichess everything is free and very few hackers and spammers are there.
And it is peaceful and have more cool stuffs like bots and free puzzles and all.
It doesnt takes money as it wants everything to be free .
Its a peaceful site for chess and the best recommnedated one chess site.
It should be number.1 chess site.

i love both the websites but I think lichess is more better because lichess is not paid and chess.com is mostly paid and also lichess has unlmited access to puzzles while chess.cm dosen't has this feature
