I've downloaded tons of all sorts of free chess stuff over the years and never had any problems. I would give it a try, might run a virus scan on the downloaded file it if you're concerned about safety.

It depends on the purpose. E.g. 365chess lists 22 of my games, chessgames.com 1 and lichess masters database 0
