Can I buy the ChessBase Mega Database and use it with a GUI other than ChessBase? • page 1/2 • General Chess Discussion • lichess.org

Thanks for reading. I have a Mac and I use Hiarcs Chess Explorer Pro. ChessBase is not compatible with MacOS. I have a database that I use with Hiarcs, but it's kind of a patchwork mess. Hiarcs Pro says it can read ChessBase files. My question is, can I just buy the Mega Database and use Hiarcs to go through the games, or would I need to somehow painstakingly extricate the database from ChessBase? I don't need and can't use the GUI. Basically, I just want to download the giant ChessBase Mega Database and import it into Hiarcs and I need to know if that's possible.

@JohnnyRooker I don't think Hiarcs can handle such a big database, I've collected millions of games from the internet such as the Millionbase, caissabase, and PGN mentor. I've tried opening them using Hiarcs and it crashed before it even opened (I've gotten over three million games on my database). Hiarcs limit is over 1 million games from me but that's all I could do.
Considering that the Chessbase Mega database is over 5-7 million games, Hiarcs would literally crash before it could even open it up. It cannot open such a large database. (Or even if it those it would literally take eternity)
I'm using Hiarcs by the way on Mac. I've gotten over custom boards and pieces like Lichess and Chess.com.

Are you using Hiarcs Chess Explorer, or HCE Pro? HCE Pro is supposed to be able to handle databases of any size.

Thanks for the response. It has Windows listen under requirements for just the Mega DataBase alone, which made me think it may be tied to the GUI or dependent on Windows in some other way.

That is correct. According to Hiarcs.com, it can handle databases of unlimited size.

SCID vs pc may work?

I was successful in importing the Chessbase Megabase into my iMac running Hiarcs Explorer Pro. I found the details of performing the transfer online.
