@mysterious_expert given how strong you are playing classical can challenge one way or a another. There just are no opponents of your strength around. This lack player makes rating dysfunctional. Like if you were playing me the rating algorithm would require dozens if not close hundred games to settle to show out difference. Even ones who are roughlly your strength in numbers are probably lot weaker.

I thing playing only with people you know is about the only answer. Then you can play strong enough people and engine users would be non existent

@mysterious_expert. Setting the rating limit like Titus said should definitely filter out a lot of the provisional players but when you come across one you will probably be safe to play, If they are cheating it will most likely be obvious to see in the analysis, then once you report them the moderators will take care of it and your rating should be refunded.

Yesterday I started to play rapid with another account. Provisional for 25 games up to say 2300, encountered 2 cheaters myself -one without „?- (both banned quickly, thank you!). It worked normally.

So what’s the fuzz all about?

You just can't seem to have a normal topic without trolls coming. #23 some cheaters surprisingly don't get banned immediately, and then they play more games, and if\when they get banned, I don't get the rating back. I am fine with earning the rating back, but for example, my classical deviation is 84 because I haven't played in some time, and if I have one game vs a 1900 who is cheating, I can lose like 45 points.

Sorry to ask (I did try googling the question) but what exactly is a "provisional player"? Is it someone with a "?" next to their rating? I have one because I play casual blitz games here (for love not money-- I don't care about online ratings). If it is a serious issue I can play a few more rated games.

@swimmerBill yes it is the ? mark but you are fine playing casual. You only need your rating if you want to play in rated tournaments. mysterious_expert plays in the titled arenas against some of the world's best players, including Magnus Carlsen : )

If you start a topic with such controversial motives you'd better be prepared to face some criticism. At least answer when you're asked to shed some light on why your motives should not be viewed as detrimental to the community and the platform.

I suppose "How can I cheat without getting banned?" would attract "trolls" too.
