I got paired against a 11 year old in the first round of a ~300 player tournament. I was a huge favorite, but I barely beat him (I could've lost but he bludndered in a better endgame). I questioned my play.
Well he went on to finish in the top 10, is now an IM with a GM norm. Now 10 years later, I feel proud about that victory. But back then, it almost felt like a defeat.

This weekend someone I know who used to know touched their queen and lifted it. They could not remember where it was and asked the opponent. The opponent gave a wrong square and caused her to place it down, let it go and lose the queen. She was 1500 with an 1000 opponent OTB

(My rating was around 1800, and I came back from a 2-week vacation. I went to United Arab Emirates, then London, then Mexico, the Santiago. I wasn't well trained.) I was playing 100% playing down. Once I was playing in a quad. First, I lost the first 2 rounds with one round remanding. It wasn't SOO bad. Then I played a 1600, and he didn't know my opening I got a position that was -1.7 (I was black.) I was happy. I knew I was going to win! But I lost after overthinking about a mate in 1. I got mad then started to tilt. Soon I learned my lesson and the next time I went back to the quad; I got 2.5 out of 3 winning $50.

It's usually difficult for me to control my emotions in chess, and when I lose consecutively I quietly break down and feel like just giving up. But I'm getting a bit better at managing my emotions now (and now I know to expect a hard time from kids :( )

I played an OTB tournament recently; Played a complicated pawn sacrifice in return for control of the only open file and a bishop in place of their knight --- used every second on both of our clocks, fought my way through a complicated middlegame. Then fought through a complicated endgame where both sides stood equal, but neither side had time. Placed my king on a square that allowed mate in one.

Now this.. this is a masterpiece man. Never have I seen a blog that dives straight into the heart and soul of someone.
