You can speak with your oppement (only when you challenge him and he accepts), there's a button to start speaking.
Any chance of adding video? IE, display your opponent in a small frame. Perhaps where the move table is?

I don't agree with voice chat because can sometimes be unsafe.
It's opt in, so you don't have to use it .
