Sudden rating increase • page 3/3 • General Chess Discussion • lichess.org

I've been around 1400 in Bullet for months, mostly a bit below that even. Since NYE suddenly I've risen to 1519. Does that happen to other people? I can't wrap my head around it. One would assume that improvement comes gradually...
Some months ago i didnt know to play well, suddenly i had an inspiration i was around 1300 bullet that time, i thought lets do some bullet games, after 100 or more games i was at 1700. There is no miracle in ut. You have awakened the genius in you

Nice. It will be interesting to see whether it holds up over the next weeks, months. The only thing still lingering in my mind is #12's mention that keyboard extensions were banned starting 2022. If a lot of people were using it, they'd suddenly be at a disadvantage and relative to them (assuming you weren't using the extensions yourself) your performance would improve, esp. in the shorter time formats. So the final thing to check is to see how you do in longer formats like Blitz and Rapid.

It could ofcourse be that something 'just clicked' in your mind and you improved your chess or your strategy in bullet: i think in bullet there are many strategies, and if you adjusted your play, you may have improved on that front: there was a very cool post recently listing a bunch of top bullet players and their very different styles of play:

i went to 1750 in blitz and then dropped to about 1580
