I've been around 1400 in Bullet for months, mostly a bit below that even. Since NYE suddenly I've risen to 1519. Does that happen to other people? I can't wrap my head around it. One would assume that improvement comes gradually...

Maybe you are just on a hot streak. Or maybe something clicked for you. Improvement isn’t a steady line. There are many plateaus and some welcome spikes along the way, and some dips unfortunately that seem to often precede the spikes.

I think you are on a hot streak. That increase happened over only 2 days (Jan 7. & Jan 8). If you can keep it there for several months come back here and report.

as you can see on my rating curve, I was on fire the last 3 days, by gaining around 100 points and reaching almost 2250 but today, I've crumbled and I lost 90 points. Bullet is not really steady as a rating and it tends to highly increase and highly decrease. I will eventually go back to 2250 but it will take some time and I'll have to be really focus. It's the same for all of us.

And it doesn't stop. I am at 1554 now, up 150 points within a good week. I've been doing lots of puzzles recently, maybe that explains part of it. I shall report back if I can stay above 1500.

Rating is stochastic (statistical) and i think its normal you have a variance around your current rating. My impression is that the range is larger in bullet. I had a spike in my bullet rating some months ago (~1200) and then cratered soon after. Now i am experiencing a more gradual increase and am currently at 1100. It was the same for me. I thought "Wow, i'm finally getting the hang of this" but no, it was mostly just luck.
