How long does “shadowban” last for?

@Tae7. "Exactly! I completely agree. That’s what I’ve been trying to get across to him but I guess he is upset and disappointed that he was banned for speaking up about something that he is passionate about and doesn’t feel like coming up with an explanation."
I believe this can be because he deep-down does not have respect enough to talk with the mods because he feels their decision was unfair. Or because he doubts that they would understand.
If the ban was unjustified then tell him that he needs to stand up for himself when he is right.
I hope this helps;)

@Imakeblunders4. I would say that's too private to share on a public forum. Its kinda public shaming.

#32 That’s none of your concern.

IDK I feel like Lichess implementing shadowbanning the way they did was a mistake. It's like Lichess doesn't understand its users are human and are not irredeemable trash the moment they act toxic. I also feel like Lichess could at least be open and transparent about things and give its users warnings and feedback instead of just instantly slapping you with a shadowban.

That's just my 2 cents

What happens to my report?

If you report someone on Lichess your report will be forwarded to the moderators. This process might take a day or two. The moderator then will look at your report and decide if there need to be actions taken. They may send a warning for first time offenses or minor offenses. They might ban someone if they are cheating or chatban people that are ignoring warnings or are highly offensive.

#36 'chatban people that are ignoring warnings'
My friend didn't get a warning before getting banned.

You aren't guaranteed one. The excerpt posted says that "they might ban someone if they are cheating or chatban people that are ignoring warnings or are highly offensive."

If your friend falls into the "highly offensive" category, they may not have received a warning. Then again, they should appeal.

Yes, mistakes happen, appealing is always the best course of action!

I was close friends with the user in question. This person could be quite harsh at times, especially when communicating with people that he had personal beef with. If you treated him well, he would be twice as nice- if you treated him with contempt, he would be twice as rude.

The user was chatbanned after replying to a forum post regarding mental health issues and suicidal thoughts- a very serious topic. He posted a long rant about how he didn't care if the OP committed suicide because they were anonymous to him and that the OP was trying to throw a pity party for himself. Then he showed it to me, saying he "felt proud about writing it." Then I realized I couldn't see his profile, and I pointed out that he was chatbanned. He closed his account soon after.

Long story short, he wasn't afraid to pick fights and he wrote some nasty things in forums before. I tried to warn him about the consequences, telling him that he doesn't know anything about the users he had beef with, and that he should stop wasting his time fighting with people who, chances are, aren't even in his age group. So technically he did get a warning or twenty, jsut not from Lichess- from his friend.
