I was watching a stream ;ast night so decided to comment on his twitch acc. I told him I played at lichess and we support chess.com when we can, He kept calling us the little chess site. When I mentioned lichess again I got threatened by a mod to ban me. I told him it's not a rivalry and he kept on about how lichess is chess.coms little brother. I wont be watching any chess.com streams anymore. I don't play there anyways with their postage stamp board.

Many grandmasters play on chess.com just because they get paid.

Yeah my favorite french streamer also only play on chess.com for about 1 year now. He used to join the bullet arenas and all when he had just begun but eh... He got sponsored by chess.com :).
Policies there come and go. Under the pretense of comparing chess sites leads to arguments, the topic is immediately locked and members muted for such discussion. In fact, they are simply fearful of members finding a better site to play, such as lichess.
It's a head scratcher the topics chesscom allows in the name of freedom of expression, yet emphatically censors other topics.
A little known fact. For years chesscom published a list of players caught using computer assistance. Mods and staff publicly named and shamed claiming such policy helped to prevent the behavior. Now they have reversed course, come to their senses. One moderator will send threats of muting/banning because a certain member is criticized, then lo and behold another moderator deletes the abusive account, but not after the 1st mod has muted to his hearts content. It's a 1st class fiasco.
I agree with you all. it's a shame that we can't co exists without chess.com streamers trying to publicly shame lichess. I stood up for us which the streamer did not like so left before they started unleashing the ban button on my account. I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction.

This is common practice in almost any business.
It was only recently that laws passed that allowed rivals to mention each other in adverts; which is why in the past few years you would hear commercials from McDonalds / Burger King where they would say better than the Big Mac or Better than the Whopper (maybe not exactly that but along those lines)
But; before that you would never hear such a thing.

Cant blame Chesscom for trying to belittle lichess; to make it sound like a joke; as I'm sure they lose a LOT of people to lichess. And, they have to be careful or they'll go down like a sinking ship.
I'm surprised they even mentioned it on a stream at all; whether it was negative or positive. Im sure lichess gained some new users due to it. All press is good press as they say.
In America it is not and never has been against the law to say the name of a completer. You just can not say anything that can be proven an outright Lie.
They ches*.com do have articles saying why they think they are better then lichess,chesstempo,chess academy etc and why it is better to pay them money or support them with a free menbership (put adblocker ublock ghostery and count the ways they make money off you)
You deside, you either support them by going to there site and watching them (talking about them) or not.
