Takeback doesn't work correctly

Quite. Although in fact, the last time I flagged, it was during a 10+0 “rapid” arena, in a game I was winning positionally / materially. I believe 10 minutes is considered blitz on some other sites; that it counts as rapid here, when you can easily play (for example) 20+5 and, while more than twice as long, this too counts as rapid — and that they seem to have chosen the shortest possible time for tournament games — is another thing I might complain about, were I in a complaining mood. But despite all appearances, I’m really not that nitpicky. O:)
#2 "Seriously: Can you think of even one good reason to retain the current functionality of this feature? Is there any conceivable scenario where you would actually request that your opponent take back _his_ move, but not yours?"

Of course! Thibault has answered this in the past, so I shall repeat his answer: a gentleman offers a takeback after their opponent has made a mistake.
@Toadofsky Offering takebacks when the opponent blunders can be character-revealing. Sometimes the opponent still does not recognize the blunder and declines what they think is me wanting to take back my last move, only to beg for it after I shrug and play my move.
Take backs should not exist in RATED chess. Take backs should not exist in RATED chess. Take backs should not exist in RATED chess.

For you travelers, when you're on the road, don't play rated.

And for the rest of you , if you're playing internet chess and you blunder......!!!!!!!!!! who cares???? Resign. Your rating here will not even buy you a cup of coffee.
№ 12,

I wouldn’t describe such a gesture as gentlemanly, at all. Quite the contrary: it is patronizing, bullying, teasing, mocking, belittling, etc. ;( Altogether very bad form. If my opponent wants a takeback, he will ask for one; but unless he has engaged me as his tutor, for me to offer him one myself is always rude. And I can think of many ways such a gesture might be abused. I have already mentioned a few; I can add that it might be used purely to induce doubt about a perfectly good move — a very slimy tactic.
No, sir. With all respect to you and our gracious host, I must disagree in the strongest possible terms.
@pawnedge

Settle down. I've offered them myself because it's genuinely a blunder and maybe they didn't realize. Or I'll say in chat, "takeback...?" instead of offering it, as that may be taken as a psychological ploy.

As for 'slimy tactics,' welcome to chess!
The chatbox is the correct place to discuss such options. I maintain that the actual button should be pressed only by a player requesting to undo his own move. Period.
That said, while there are indeed many types of tactics in chess, I meant IRL. Distracting behaviors, such as waving one’s hands over the board, have no place in chess. ;(
Further corroboration of my views: lichess.org/forum/general-chess-discussion/why-almost-nobody-understands-what-takeback-on-opponents-move-means (Cf. № 13 above.)
Even in the rare cases where you try to offer someone else a takeback, no one ever understands what you’re doing. They very naturally assume you are requesting one for yourself, not on their behalf.
So this just bolsters my argument. I am vindicated in my belief that takeback requests should always apply to one’s own moves.
@pawnedge : Do you really think it is patronizing to offer a takeback?
I mean when in a quite smooth situation without obvious threats my opponent moves Kf8, I suppose he intended to castle - and I certainly offer a takeback. In your opinion that means I want to withdraw my previous move? That is quite an unreasonable assumption.
I think everything can stay just how it is. I know I am too frequently lured into granting a atkeback and later regretting it - but that is my personal weakness and not a problem of Lichess.
Can anyone help please ?
Interesting discussion:
I'm curretnly playing a correspondence chess game against my nephew and he has requested a takeback after a missclick dropped his queen on a blunder square. I could take the queen which would be game over but would I will happily allow a rare-ish takeback (as long as he doesn't takepiss).

He messages me to say he has proposed a takeback and as far as I understand I should get some kind of option to accept it - but as yet I can see no way of doing this and we are stuck with a stuffed game. How do I accept the takeback ? So far there's been no message / button / option etc . . .

Can anyone help please?
