Puzzle rating not changing after solved rated puzzles

Howdy.

When I try to solve a puzzle, I set it up on a physical board and it takes me quite some time to figure it out. In order that the puzzle does not change on me before I input my response(s), I seem to have to click on the actual puzzle linked page. See .

When I get one of these puzzles wrong, my rating goes down. When I get one of these puzzle right, my rating does not change, and the puzzle is not in my puzzle history/profile. Seems same case as in this page .

This seems very strange and buggy. I'd like my rating to properly reflect my performance, in order to keep motivating me and to get harder puzzles. If my rating can only go down or never changes, regardless of performance, then this defeats the purpose of a puzzle rating.

Could someone (an admin, perhaps?) respond if this is the correct puzzle behavior on lichess? If so, why is it set up like this? If not, is there a plan to fix this bug? In the meantime, is there a better workaround for my case?

Cheers.

Your playing with very low rated puzzles. If you lose, you get a huge deduction which is correct.

Puzzles automatically become unrated when you open them via a direct link. That's so that you don't gain points when playing a puzzle to which you already know the solution (i.e. when it was linked somewhere together with discussion) and so that you can't just open the puzzle in a new tab, view the solution, and then solve it in the original tab.

I just tested it a few times and it always works correctly for me, no matter whether I solve or fail the puzzle and whether it's in the original or new tab.

My guess would be that you're sometimes opening the puzzle in a new tab and sometimes not?

As long as you keep the puzzle page open, it shouldn't reload and switch to another puzzle. Though it probably will reload if your PC goes to sleep for a while or your browser unloads the page in the background. The puzzle page isn't really intended for usage like this.

This is to some degree understandable, but why even bother with this check since there can be no real cheat detection anyway?
Can it not be detected if the puzzle has been completed before, and thus the solution would be known already?

In practice this restriction makes it impossible to continue solving a hard puzzle on another day since it may be gone the next time you open the page.

At least the "Rated" toggle button could be greyed out, so not to give any false indications that the direct link puzzle is rated.

It happened to zolpi when he did puzzle stream.

Don’t worry it’s practice.
