omg you changed it... AGAIN??

Comments on specific moves appear in a weird way, not practical at all
the move that should be highlighted is barely visible
can't see the symbols on the annotations, they appear on the board but not the annotations on the right

that are just some of the other problems... the whole thing is a mess i don't understand why implement that like i said up there lichess studies is my life i spend most of my time on there so to have such a brutal change without even the possibility of using the old code is devastating for me really

Yes this is annoying. The glyphs don't show up in the notation anymore on mobile aswell, so the evaluation (plus minus etc) for example is only visible when I'm on the move etc.

glyphs not showing in study move list is a bug. it has been fixed and is awaiting deployment

Yeahh I'm a religious user of the studies, this change of format just makes it 100x more difficult to read the annotations and deviations I hope the devs change this back, it was perfect before

Maybe the devs have an easier time but I have no idea what you guys mean without a screenshot and maybe some arrows to explain this issue. And I'm also an avid user of studies.
Maybe you could try to explain the problem a bit more thoroughly?

My_real_name is being a little histrionic here but this has definitely turned my studies into an unreadable mess. Please at least offer the old version as a legacy option even if you intend to move forward with this.

For example, in the old interface I could see the text 5...b6 and also the deviations on move 8 being 8...Bb4 and 8...d5?!

In the new one I have to literally scroll down from 5...b6 to find this move 8...d5?! It's so confusing

Here's a screenshot from one of my studies which illustrates the problem:

This is an unreadable jumble of crap and what relates to what is very difficult to discern. The next move after 11...Nb6, 12. Nxb6, is floating in the middle of the page in some random location and visually appears to be on the same level of hierarchy as all the 9... moves.

The [-] symbol, which is spammed throughout the page in a visually disruptive way, has very inconsistent meanings. It either means "there's a treeview structure here" (which is what I'd expect it to mean) or it means "an italicized variation will follow in brackets" or it means "actually there aren't any variations here, but there's a comment". I understand that the idea is that clicking it will show/hide some additional content, but I do not agree that treating comments as equivalent to a subtree of variations makes any sense.

What I would prefer is to do away entirely with the idea of "the main line" in variations and display all the lines in a treeview hierarchy, i.e. have 11...Nb6 12. Nxb6 Qxb6 13. a3 displayed in exactly the same way as the 11...g6 line. The old version would do inline italicized variations if there were only two variations but switch to a tree if there were three or more, which was fine even though I would prefer it just used a tree even for two variations. The issue with this version is that it is now insisting there has to be such a thing as a "main line" at all times and that it doesn't get grouped with the other variations.

There is definitely some stuff that's at least suboptimal.

In studies in the other modes this change has had some strange effects too example

The folding is pretty much pointless here and the variation buttons also don't really help.
