no round robin tournaments on lichess

I would also vote for the introduction of Round Robins, also I see that there may be problems with drop outs. Probably the regulations from the FIDE Handbook (@philipez #21) cannot be applied online, because sometimes it's only clear during the last round whether a player has played more or less than 50%. Then it wouldn't be wise to alter the results of drop outs after the tounament has almost finished.

But if we limit RRs to teams and to an upper limit of players, I see more benefit than harm compared to pseudo RR swisses. As @jeffforever (#20) already has pointed out, in a Swiss the top players would tend to be paired in the first half of the tournament, so the second half becomes kind of boring because of too big rating differences. A RR with a random starting order makes for a more interesting tournament.

Furthermore in a Swiss, resulting from the pairing algorithm, there may be cases where the color differences won't even out at +/-1 for all players, and even worse, there may even be cases where the tournament has to end prematurely because there are no more valid pairings for the remaining rounds (like in lichess.org/swiss/UFyKy5jN).

And I have to support @philipez #22, that double RRs would be nice ;-)

Finally I even see an advantage with online drop outs compared to OTB drop outs: here on Lichess you could play rated games while waiting and don't have to wait for hours like @Toadofsky mentioned in #19 ;-)
Although I'm in favor of RRs:

|> You can't play a Swiss where you have 1 round less than the participants @odoaker2015 (#26)

Yes, you can, and in full accordance with the FIDE Swiss Rules as laid down in the FIDE Handbook § C.04. For an example on Lichess see here: lichess.org/swiss/8TqV6YOZ
#31 Well said. And I do have other ideas which at this time it would be non-constructive to voice (not through anyone's fault, but my advocacy in favor of Swiss tournaments was not constructive, despite it being overwhelmingly popular and I strongly favored it, my contribution was meager) ... and I won't voice until I have something constructive to contribute.

#29 I'm a developer, not a maintainer - I love having as many features as possible and partially realize the extraordinary migraine my advocacy causes. Long live Lichess!
Some travelers come to a village, carrying nothing more than an empty cooking pot. Upon their arrival, the villagers are unwilling to share any of their food stores with the hungry travelers. Then the travelers go to a stream and fill the pot with water, drop a large stone in it, and place it over a fire. One of the villagers becomes curious and asks what they are doing. The travelers answer that they are making "stone soup", which tastes wonderful and which they would be delighted to share with the villager, although it still needs a little bit of garnish, which they are missing, to improve the flavor.

The villager, who anticipates enjoying a share of the soup, does not mind parting with a few carrots, so these are added to the soup. Another villager walks by, inquiring about the pot, and the travelers again mention their stone soup which has not yet reached its full potential. The villager hands them a little bit of seasoning. More and more villagers walk by, each adding another ingredient. Finally, the stone (being inedible) is removed from the pot, and a delicious and nourishing pot of soup is enjoyed by travelers and villagers alike. Although the travelers have thus tricked the villagers into sharing their food with them, they have successfully transformed it into a tasty meal which they share with the donors.

Introducing round robins isn't planned.
@kleineme "Yes, you can, and in full accordance with the FIDE Swiss Rules as laid down in the FIDE Handbook § C.04. For an example...", Can you show the crucial passage please? I would like to read it myself! Thanks in advance!
@Toadofsky
I'm still happy to have made this thread. It has also been said that one does not plan to introduce the swiss system. And now it's here! One should never give up hope!
@Toadofsky. I am fine with round robin gone. I understand the issue. But can there be options of tiebreaking methods in swiss? The FIDE rules state what a fast game is played. That can be done as an option for tiebreaking. For example, a 5|0 or 3|0 game is played, or the sonnebon Berger score is used, depending on creator choice.
