I'm sorry @thibault but the fact that everything can be deleted with a single key press had me laughing for a bit. Of course, it's only funny now that you guys managed to fix it back. Otherwise it would have been a real tragedy :'(

Thanks @thibault for keeping this site going even with a mishap :)
The lichess team is great and I bet many phone calls and communication was going on during that time.
I did have a conversation that was deleted but that was all on my side.
If anyone does read my post PLEASE read @thibaults post before you make a thread about something going funny today it most likely happened with the server mishap.
Now @thibault you pressed delete and then pulled out you'r Uno reverse card huh?

Greatful there was a backup and we didn't have to replay all the billions of games. That would have been an inconvenience.

I have downloaded all the database public games including variants games. I believe Lichess can restore these from players even if they lost them all. But casual games, chat history and other things may be lost.

So nice that @thibault is so open and responsible about this .

Perhaps this explains my strange game. I was nearing mate, then my opponent stopped playing for several minutes. Suddenly the board completely reconfigured to a much earlier point in the game, and I had lost ten minutes of time. I never lost connection. I tried to find a way to flag or challenge the result but could not find such a feature.

You lost more than 38 minutes of data. I played 53 games of 1 0 today. That's a lot longer than 38 minutes. None of the games are in my history (VIEW THE GAMES).
You ought to announce what was lost, from the main lichess landing page, so that people know what was lost, and, so people can have some idea of what to report.

I think if we can see them, they are not lost? If it is lost then we shouldn't be able to see it on your personal data page.

My “5 worst losses” are gone from my profile page.
Can take years to get back.

In fact, it only takes one wrong command to delete everything without any confirmation checks.
sure, but I doubt rm -rf /data/db/* wasn't the command. I'm very curious to know what the mistake was.
