Why is my chess.com rating significantly higher than here on Lichess.org • page 1/3 • General Chess Discussion • lichess.org

On Chess.com i'm in the 75% percentile whilst here on Lichess.org 'im only in the 30% percentile. Any ideas kind people. Thank You

That's because chess.com has far more players, whereas Lichess has fewer but more skilled players on average, so whereas you're in the 30% percentile here, you're actually in the 75% percentile when compared with a larger sample of players (a lot more n00bs basically). I have similar differences in my Lichess vs chess.com stats.

Of course for the top players it doesn't matter, they're rated something like 3,000+ glicko2 both here and on chess.com, but for us more normal but still somewhat skilled players, the percentiles differ, because there aren't as many crappy players here.

I thought lichess was higher than chess.com .. I used to be mid 1800 on there but that was ages ago id assume im near 1900 there but i dont feel an urge to play there , my chess is progressing at a snails pace , although im setting personal bests alot more and almost near a milestone i have more fun here on lichess , its weird that you have the opposite going on.

@dooeyDecimal Yeah on chess.com, my rapid rating dropped all the way 810 and stayed there. On lichess, my rapid rating is 1492 and semi-stable. So yeah... I have no clue at all what is happening...

There's no valid reason to play at chess.com, because the software is proprietary crapware, whereas Lichess is open source and non-profit. Lichess simply offers a far superior experience. That said, Lichess should incorporate some aspects of their rating statistics, which in some details is actually well done. But aside from that, I see no value in chess.com, and the only thing they got going for them is their domain making the site more popular than Lichess.

@qetuouk thanks man i feel im still playing lousy but getting some wins in , so i don't know whats going on.. I feel like i'm a very strong 1900 but somehow i'm in the 95% club ... maybe its a little bit of inflation with a lil bit improvement, mixed in with playing sober .. i just want to break into that 2200 to 2300 club and play somewhat decent chess..
