Lichess was comparable to Chess.com before the qurantine chess boom, and growed significantly in the chess boom too. In year 2021 it was about 1.1 Billion Lichess games vs. 4.6 Billions Chess.com games. However, growth stalled on Lichess later, even reduced slightly since then. Chess.com kept their growth well, as last year Chess.com had 12.5B games, while Lichess still had about 1B games. Chess.com growed more than 2.5 times and Lichess none in 2021-2023; and according to their recent X message, the gap is still larger that 5 times now.
I want to know why does that happen in your view, espeically those who play on both platforms. Lichess is much better for me, I use its free opening explorer, SF17 analysis and its free large database. Also Chess.com is discouraged in my country because of its strong will to interfere political issues with a biased position.
So what is the reason, that people still keep going to Chess.com, instead of "all-round-better" Lichess?
Because people with money have more money than common sense.if they're spending money it must be good.
I worked in an electrical store once and really insulted this old woman , she came in to buy a camera , I showed her one of the cheapest ones off the bottom shelf, cause that was my pay level , then I saw the manager walk towards me , realised what was going on and grabbed the most expensive camera off the top shelf .....because I had actually insulted her , the cameras basically had same functions did the same thing but she thought I had insulted her , money does strange things to people xxx
Before 2021, the growth of Chess.com and Lichess were almost synchronized. Even in 2021, Chess.com boosted more, but Lichess is still growing. But after 2021, Lichess suddenly stopped to grow any more, but Chess.com continued to increase to 10B-level.
My question is, what happened back then until now to cause this difference? Back then Chess.com is always profiting and Lichess always open-source and free. That didn't change much though.
Well basically search for chess on line you get chess.con , could be as simple as that they cornering the market bought up other chess websites and Magnus , money talks , thank God ,and Thibault for Lichess so we have somewhere to be when we're ****ing skint xxx

What are your sources? https://lichess.org/@/Lichess/blog/lichess-year-in-review-2023/ZZQVPhAA in this blog it is clearly stated that there have been over 5 billion rated games on Lichess, also if you actually checked: https://database.lichess.org/#standard_games Then you could clearly do the math and see how The amount of games is definitely more than 1B, please check from your sources properly and then go to the forums.

That's 5B since the beginning, not for 2023.

Chessdotcom has a better environment for very new players / beginners and they make up the vast majority of chess players. Most people just play chess for fun, as it takes significant effort to get good at it.
Lichess is a more chess-focused site, fewer flashy colors and goofy features, just more focus on chess itself
According to the database link in #7, Lichess had exponential growth before the pandemic, and zero growth after the pandemic. None of the explanations of chess.com's business model explains that.
