why would lichess need to grow? Billion games a year is a lot. Anyway lichess is not competing with chess.com as lichess is not a business but mostly vonlunteer based service for those who like it.
Bigger growth would require stuff like advertising and marketing.

Lichess is fine as it is. I hope it stays that way. If it grew too much it would become like the other platform, and thus its specificity would be lost.
It is good that the two sites remain different from each other.

Chess.com spends dozens of millions of dollars in marketing per year. It gets priority in both App Store and Google Play. Only hardcore players know about Lichess. I think both platforms have good things that the other doesn't have and vice-versa. I use both!

Do you think chess.com only started spending the money post-pandemic, and that the pandemic caused societal change against chess in general? Otherwise, I don't see how that's relevant to the question.

What are your sources? lichess.org/@/Lichess/blog/lichess-year-in-review-2023/ZZQVPhAA in this blog it is clearly stated that there have been over 5 billion rated games on Lichess, also if you actually checked: database.lichess.org/#standard_games Then you could clearly do the math and see how The amount of games is definitely more than 1B, please check from your sources properly and then go to the forums.
Yes, what is the problem?
Lichess get 1.1B in year 2023 and 5B up to 2023 cumulative.
Chess.com get 12.5B in 2023 and I believe more than 22B cumulative.
We cannot compare Lichess cumulative to Chess.com 1 year......
https://www.chess.com/news/view/2023-year-in-review
And yes my data is from database.lichess.org too. It is about 90-100M a month and about 1.1B a year. Hope my math is correct.
It is real that Chess.com keep grow since 2022-23, while Lichesa not...

I do not want to compare them; for me Lichess is always better. I just point out, though Lichess seems better, it stops growing compare to the market.
This is a serious issue I think worthwhile discussing. The people-in-charge might should take some efforts to find why that happens. Thank for your advice.

Because thr market/total players are growing about 3 times according to chess.com data. If Lichess is not growing, then it means its percentage is shrinking 3 times.
Remember Chess24 just closed this year. Not grow probably is the start of fading away.

Welcome bro
, I know your comparison will be good.
I said IF, If it's a bad thing about lichess is SMP (is not a topic about chess use Off-Topic Discussion) , is already answered on FQ , from (you know ) "How are you going to compare two different things ... site..." (The person who wrote this will know)
Own experience

First, lichess is better for specific group of people who, like it or not, are a minority in today's society. Just go through the forum and you'll se a number of "make lichess more like chess-com" requests, whether it's about "boring design", more "gamification" or fake features ("brilliant moves", "rating performance in a game", ...). It shows that even many lichess users would rather prefer it to be just "chess-com for free".
Second, unlike chess-com, lichess does not really compete on a market. That may sound like a formal difference but it's actually quite important. It e.g. means that lichess is less likely to add "bells and whistles" type of features and pseudoimprovements just to attract masses. It also means that lichess is less pushed into making numbers look better in order to make investors happy. And when you compare the growth (or lack thereof), did you make sure you are using comparable values? Hint: are those numbers the total number of accounts - or unique users? Or only active ones? And if it's the latter, do you define "active" in the same way on both sites?
