Well why don't they? Chess24 is a joke, the board is not big enough, and can't fit on the screen properly. And filled with ads, and is basically very bad. Lichess is the big thorn in chess com's side. If they do buy, it people wouldn't have a better alternative to go elsewhere. Or is lichess really expensive? I saw a few sites and they placed its evaluation at 1.8 m to 2m.. well surely chess com can spare the money to eliminate a giant competitor? or if there evaluation is off, what is the real networth of lichess?
P.S : i am asking this because i returned from chess24 and it was a dump lol.

Chess24 and chess.com are two diff. Sites.
Plus if not liches someone else will create a free site.
Like both chess.com and chess24 are for premium members only.

They can't, Lichess is totally open source; Theorethically they could just copy/paste and put another Lichess on their servers. But because of the license (https://github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/master/LICENSE) they would still be unable to sell it.
(That's what I understood but I actually never read the file, so don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong.)

Having just played on chess.com I can officially say that I prefer this site then chess.com.

Chess.com interface is bad and laggy. Atleast on my phone it is like that. Lichess servers are far better.

Isn't that what Microsoft has done? Copying the open source code of Chrome/Chromium and released it as Edge 2?

Chess.com only wants money, lichess actually offers all features for free. I think that lichess is financed in big amounts by people who don't want a site that is free to go.

@Sarg0n Yes The new Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium and now runs on my windows 7 as well, previously it was only exclusive to windows 10

To the OP even if chess.com somehow buy Lichess domain because they can't buy the source code .. People will run the same code on different domain .. :D
