Why would I ask the opponent if I can resign? I played a game recently where it was quite obvious I am lost and have no plan of action. But my opponent just wouldn't let me resign. I even asked in chat but he/she just won't let me resign. They just want their satisfaction of checkmating the king on an empty board while I get nothing more from the game. If I leave the match or just let the clock run out, I will get a play ban. WHY can I not resign when I want to!! This is why I don't play much on this platform. Chess.com is much better at this.

Go to https://lichess.org/account/preferences/game-behavior . Under "Confirm resignation and draw offers" choose "No". Problem solved.
This confirmation is for new users who sometimes press wrong buttons. Once they understand which button does what they can disable this.
