Why Cheat?

The same could be asked of people who want to compete without cheating. You want to beat the competition. So, the cheater isn't trying to cheat the innocent, the cheater is trying to beat another cheater.

One gangsta fighting another gangsta. Ain't that dope?

You know the beauty of government as a totalitarian regime is that if it chooses to focus its laws directly on any one citizen it can easily destroy them in any shape or form. Or to put it another way.....citizens have a duty to force a government to enforce dumb laws. FFS in some countries it is still illegal to be gay and punishable by death.

You have people in your club who openly admit to cheating and are not ostracized? In my club nobody would want to play with them.

I was versing someone the other day. The person was cheating and then it immediately resigned for that person. The game was rated an was a correspondence game 1 day. Neither of us got no rating. It also straight away showed the account violated.

What you ask is actually pretty deep, I think that's why criminology exist.

why doing Any crime? the good man would ask.

Some people have a tendency for money, and some have a tendency to shed blood. - but the being good or bad is a person's choice. the blood shedder can became a surgeon, mohel, nurse, butcher. the money grabber can go make businesses and give loans with interest, work in a bank or as a cashier - seeing money all the time.

I believe cheating comes from pride, as you mentioned - they feel proud of cheating. - it makes them feel smart and powerful. like a computer hacker. how many of us can send a virus that can shut down a website? not that many. the subtle point is, he lets his joy come on the expense of the sadness of someone else. but chess is a sum-zero game anyway - you lose = I win, and vice versa, so the morality here gets even slimmer. no?

The answer to the question is important - I'm a strong believer that in order to fix something you need to understand the cause deeply enough. the 'root of evil'.

I know what you mean, it's really sad how pathetic, people have become. Maybe it's different in other places. But all the local clubs where I live are stacked full of cheaters and it's not like they are bashful about it. It seems wining means everything and integrity mens nothing to the kids who play at the local clubs these days. They would rather blame others for their actions and make up whatever excuse to themselves why they cheat instead of practice.

Case in point:

playing chess is a pointless activity of lazy deluded people who think they are more intelligent than those who do more productive activities.

There are too many people who have no respect for the game and they only play because cheating others helps make them feel smarter. The sad part is they will never really understand the benefits that come with hard work and practice, benefits that go fare beyond simply wining a game.

Cheating online isn’t as prevalent as it is often thought. I haven’t yet encountered any obvious cheater (I’ve never been refunded). Even if we assume I did encounter a few super-sophisticated cheaters who evaded the detection system, it’s safe to say the bulk of my opponents are fair people. I think the illusion of widespread cheating is because cheat detection is brought up constantly. Chances are, if you play thousands of OTB games, you will encounter a few cheaters (it happens even in elite tournaments from time to time). But in online chess, you don’t see your opponent in front of you, which naturally creates some suspicion. Why would someone log into a chess app with no intention to actually play and revel in earning a few artificial rating points online, only to be permanently expelled?

"You likely know (or are...) a chess player who has cheated.
Many chess players think that cheaters aren't representative of the chess community. The unfortunate truth is that, as community members ourselves, we can say that several of our clubmates and chess friends have been closed for cheating. Chess.com staff personally know and like many Chess.com members that we have closed for cheating. If you are well-connected in your local or regional community, statistically, you probably also know someone who has been closed for cheating, whether the case was public or private."

I have completely stopped playing rated games. I now only play unrated blitz games. This is because I too saw that there is no point in playing rated games because there are soooooo many that cheats. I have played active chess for 28 years in clubs. Have fide rating around 1600. And I have seen cheating sky rocketing the last years. There is no reason anymore in playing online rated games, nor in lichess or chesscom. The only thing one achieve with playing rated games is frustration with all the cheaters. My humble sugestion to all of you is this: quit rated games and play instead unrated games. Unrated games is more chillout. You dont have to be frustrated by cheaters stealing your hard fought rating points.
Love from me to everyone that love chess here in the lichess-club

By the way: I strongly believe that the entire economic system is dying now and will completely, and I mean completely, break down within one year, most likely before christmas this year. Within next summer new world order will arise where money will not exist anymore. Instead everyone will be strictly controlled and given food and other needs under strictly controlled systems

I’ve been wondering why so many people cheat at online chess? At my local libraries chess meets, more than half the usual crowd has admitted (mostly bragged) to being habitual online cheaters

Money and prizes lucrative tournament's crypto and bitcoin many fingers deep in the online Chess pie streamers, servers, Grandmasters everyone is making making money so evildoers want a cut of that for themselves!

Trolling and ego are the other motivating reasons why.
