Just wondering. And the GM and IM titles? I know it's not just chess it's used for. Thanks for replies.

1950 was fide & IM and 1957 was GM

Elo developed his system late 50¨'s I would assume. USCF took it into use 1960 and later modified the silly expectation curve with simpler one. Not practical difference just no need to use pre-computed expectancies.

And system is not nothing out of blue. 1952 paper by bradley terry was good treatment of estimattn "strengths" and Elo system could be seen as simplification of the aforementioned model. Anyway Elo is badly outdated system and I fail to understand any for instance betting money on sports with estimated form Elo system. There are so much more accurate ones available.

CM in 2002. I was close to becoming one early, failed and fell below Elo 2100. 9 years later I succeeded > Elo 2200.
