Warning. Letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban.

I never play long games until the last seconds but I just played a game and got the warning from the title. I wasn't idle at all nor did I let the time run out. In fact, I spent my very last mili-seconds making the last move. Aren't you supposed to use all the time you have available? or is it intended for you to behave as maniac in the last phase with the threat of getting banned? I tried to look for technical rules about time-usage but could not find anything, can someone help me? I don't know if I did something wrong or if something from the website is faulty.

no you will not get banned.
It is for players who let the clock run f.i. for 5 minutes instead of resigning. Sometimes you get the automatic message. Happened to me before never got a temporary ban.

Hmm im still worried, for example: in the middle of a rapid game I can't spend more than 5 minutes on one single move? Are there specific or unspoken rules about time management in the website?

You can spend as long as you want on moves.. just don’t leave the game running and not make any moves.. in a 45 minute game you can spend 20 minutes on a single move.. no problem.. but nobody is going to have 20 minutes on their clock and not move at all.. that’s not acceptable.

In the middle of a game, you can spend all the time you want prior to making a move. The warning is just a message for players who find themselves in a lost position and they let time run out instead resigning. If you spend until the very last millisecond to make a valid move, it's possible the server interprets that you are wasting your and your opponent's time.

It's a warning intending to notify people that if they continue doing what they did and if this becomes a pattern, measures will be taken. The system deals with this automatically.

you spent almost 2 minutes on this move:

, where you are not only clearly losing, but your opponent has mate in 2. i'd say that was a fair warning.

yes @inthecipherable. if you know you will lose, and you are just running out of time on purpose, so your opponent has to leave and resign, then you will get banned

It's just a warning and it's nothing to be worried about (unless you intentionally let the clock run out to grief the opponents). Don't take the message personally. #2 is right

I like that Lichess has these warnings and also the warning about sandbagging your elo. It notifies that you're doing something wrong rather than outright shadow banning or taking some other measure. I think it's useful that these warnings exist.

you spent almost 2 minutes on this move:
Im new, I truly wasn't sure it was checkmate in 2, so I scanned all options and even asked a question in the chat to my opponent (not sure if other users can see that). Im still surprised by being pressured with rules that are nowhere to be found.
