What's your take, do you reckon the Koth format could be around as a viable option to OTB alongside 960 - do you see it as a real possibility or just wishful thinking ?

To me it looks viable, as KOTH is very close to classical chess, but who am I to judge? Many other variants would be problematic OTB, e. g. horde. One would need too many chess sets.
I guess that KOTH won't get the popularity of Freestyle chess, let alone classical chess.

I have been waiting for more than 15 years for the random, 960, free-style boom. It starts tomorrow, right? :D

Since Weissenhaus put his money in as well as Magnus joined the merry-go-round they thought freestyle will do the job (name) better. Alas, in vain. >90% of all chess players don‘t care. A random occurrence.

I meant that KOTH is unlikely to reach the sponsorship level of Freestyle Chess, and also less likely to attract so many top classical chess players. Although Koth is a German surname, so perhaps it could help to find a sponsor who would connect the event with his/her name?!

Koth is about as close to the good 'ol chess we know as it gets. I reckon it could fit right in alongside 960 for OTB in tournament play.

You know, Koth is pretty much the idea that Steinitz would have approved of. After all, our first world champ always said the king could hold its own. Reuben Fine said the king's quite a powerhouse and ought to get in there when the time's right.
