Timer cheats

Now I understand for why bad man's win against me. I have many points lost because you explain lag switchers! Because so easy for cheatman Leechess no good?

One question. Why is it not possible to simply offer the option of speed games WITHOUT lag compensation as well as what is currently in place? There are all sorts of configurations already. Why not simply offer "no lag compensation" games as an option for those of us (a good chunk, apparently) who find the current system unfair? Offer that option and let people play in whichever format they choose. Why not? Seems like a fair compromise solution to me.

Same reason why the system cant be just removed
Because the people who suffer from lag or live far away from france and thus have bad ping. Would be disadvantaged and it seperates lichess and creates a pay wall or an area wall where if you not close to lichess or cant afford better internet you have to play in a b league.

Thats the problem everything hurts someone

If this bug exists, should it not be possible to prove it by having two bots play against each other where both are configured to think for a fixed amount of time per move and one of the computers has a large artificial lag?

Look, if Lichess offered the same timed options in both "regular" and "no lag compensation" version, everyone would be free to play in whatever version they chose. It wouldn't cost anyone anything more. All the people who want the lag compensation could play that format. All of us who would prefer no lag compensation could play that format. People already choose between bullet, blitz, 10 minute games, 15 minute games, 30 minute games, standard chess, etc. and no one complains that people are disenfranchised. I am simply saying offer the option of no lag compensation for those who prefer that. Seems like an easy fix and a no-brainer to me.

The problem is that people with bad lag will be forced to play with lag comp and thus separating the playerbase by ping into good play no comp and bad play with comp

Thus a virtual paywall is made as lets say i live in new zealand its far from france and even with good
Still high ping meaning play without it is bad meaning i have to move to france to play or pay a fortune to get still high ping but good internet

That would be easy to do but the problem is that real lag is hard to simulate as it changes alot also not easy to measure it without having 100k players said ping metrics to lichess which would be a nice ddos for the server

Here’s the thing for me: if it was indeed lag compensation (of which I am still unconvinced), then why is it applied at the crucial END of the game when there are fractions of a second left, and not throughout the game? Sometimes the circumstances at the end of a game require the player to use the clock to their advantage, right?

That's a straw man argument. You are assuming that all good players would automatically play without comp. That's not true. There are very good players all over the world, some close to France, some far away. There would likely be just as many continue to play with comp as play without comp. What you are essentially arguing is that the change would unfairly inconvenience you. But you don;t acknowledge that the current system unfairly inconveniences a lot of the rest of us. I live in the U.S. and I am not close to France either. You say you don;t want a "paywall" but the way it is now, this is essentially changing the way the game is played---just as unacceptable.

Indeed.
