Remember folks improving is good, but at the end of the day chess is just fun to play.

Of course, it's too late now.
I would give him the advice to avoid playing only online.
To my opinion you need the human feedback for real
improving. Although endgames, developing middlegame-plans,
and other fundamentals are pure work, human feedback
helps a lot.
