Of course, the detail we are talking about here isn't nearly as important as the en passant rule. But in my opinion, the official rules matter and having a unified set of rules is usually desirable.
If you are paired via lobby games get aborted, if you are paired via arena you lose game and rating, if you are paired via swiss tournament you lose game but not rating. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's the same on chesscom.
That may very well be true. When I said on the Chess.com, the game is aborted without a rating change, I was referring to normal non-tournament games from the lobby. I don't know about tournament games.
